Privacy policy
Effective date: 7 October 2026
This policy covers KeyFlip for Windows and this website at keyflip.alexlv.com. KeyFlip is developed by Alex LV. Contact alex@alexlv.com with privacy questions or deletion requests concerning information you send to the developer.
Keyboard input stays on your PC
KeyFlip processes keyboard events locally to detect words typed with the wrong English or Russian phonetic keyboard layout. It temporarily holds the current word and the latest correction in memory to support correction and undo. It does not save a history of your typing, send typed input to the developer, or use the clipboard.
The app uses the active keyboard layout, foreground application information, and Windows accessibility information to decide whether to apply a correction. It checks for identifiable password fields before applying corrections. You can pause correction or exclude applications.
Settings and diagnostics
KeyFlip saves your custom replacement rules, never-switch words, excluded application executable names, layout choices, and sync state in %LocalAppData%\KeyFlip\settings.json. It may retain a previous copy as settings.json.bak. These settings files are readable JSON and are not encrypted by KeyFlip. Startup preferences use the current Windows user’s Run registry key.
The app also writes local diagnostics to %LocalAppData%\KeyFlip\diagnostics.json. These contain event counts, layout identifiers, correction decision categories, field-check status, errors, and pause state. They are used to troubleshoot the app and are not automatically uploaded.
Google data KeyFlip accesses
Google Drive sync is optional. The current desktop app requests these permissions:
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.fileallows KeyFlip to access files it creates or files you explicitly make available to it. KeyFlip uses this to create, read, and update its own sync file and consolidate duplicate sync files.https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.appdataallows access to KeyFlip’s hidden application-data folder. The current app uses this to read and migrate sync data stored by earlier versions.
KeyFlip does not request access to your entire Drive, Gmail, contacts, or calendar. It reads its sync files and their identifiers, versions, creation times, and Drive links to locate and reconcile settings.
What Drive sync stores
KeyFlip stores keyflip-sync.json in My Drive. The file contains your custom replacement rules and their enabled and capitalization options, never-switch words, and excluded application executable names. It does not contain your typing history. Keyboard layout choices, startup settings, and diagnostic counters stay on the PC.
The sync file is readable JSON. KeyFlip does not encrypt it before upload. Requests to Google use HTTPS. Legacy sync data may remain in KeyFlip’s hidden application-data folder after migration.
Sync runs directly between your PC and Google Drive. It downloads saved lists and uploads changes so PCs connected to the same Google account can use the same rules. The developer does not operate a server that receives these synced settings.
Google authorization tokens
Google sign-in opens in your default browser. KeyFlip stores authorization tokens in %LocalAppData%\KeyFlip\google-token-v2.bin, protected by Windows DPAPI for the current Windows user. Tokens are used to authorize requests to Google. They are not sent to this website or the developer.
Sharing and Limited Use
KeyFlip uses Google data only to provide its settings-sync feature. It does not sell Google user data or use it for advertising, profiling, or training AI models. The developer does not access your Google account or sync file.
KeyFlip follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Google handles data in your Drive under Google’s privacy policy.
Disconnecting and deleting data
- In KeyFlip Settings → Sync, choose Disconnect Google Drive to remove the local authorization token and stop sync on that PC. Repeat on each connected PC.
- Revoke KeyFlip’s Google access through your Google Account’s third-party connections. Revoking access does not itself delete the sync file.
- Delete
keyflip-sync.jsonand any olderKeyFlip Sync.jsonfiles from Drive and empty the Drive trash. If you used an earlier version, remove its hidden app data through Google Drive Settings → Manage apps → KeyFlip → Options → Delete hidden app data. - To remove local settings and diagnostics, exit KeyFlip and delete
%LocalAppData%\KeyFlipon each PC. Disable Start KeyFlip with Windows if you also want to remove its startup entry.
Disconnect before deleting Drive files to prevent a connected PC from recreating them. Local settings and Drive copies remain until you delete them. Google’s own retention rules can apply to data stored in Drive.
This website and contact
This website uses no analytics, advertising, tracking scripts, or cookies. The web server records standard request logs, including IP address, request path, timestamp, browser information, and response status. These logs support site operation and troubleshooting and follow the server’s log rotation settings.
If you send the developer an email or diagnostic file, the developer uses that information to respond and investigate the issue. Contact alex@alexlv.com to request deletion of information you sent. The developer cannot delete files stored only on your PCs or in your Google account.
